This is a HUGE loss for CROW and for the wildlife of Lee County. I am heartsick over this. I learned so much from her and admired and respected her more than I can say.

Dr. PJ Resigns From CROW
by Brian Johnson

Clinic Director and Veterinarian Dr. PJ Deitschel has resigned from CROW. This past Sunday, July 18 was her last day at the wildlife hospital.
Dr. PJ is headed to Pensacola, where she will assist with the rehabilitation of wildlife impacted by the BP oil slick.

“It is with sadness I’ve resigned my position as clinic director/staff veterinarian at Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife,” said Dr. PJ. “CROW has been my passion for 12 years and it will always hold a very special place in my heart. It’s been a joy and honor to serve our wildlife patients and work with such a truly amazing group of people. “I’m grateful my skills and passion are needed with the gulf oil spill wildlife emergency response team and look forward to this opportunity to advocate for animals in a different capacity. “My heartfelt thanks to this community for your wonderful support and kind words throughout the years.”

Dr. PJ first came to CROW in March, 1996 as a senior vet student. She became the head veterinarian in November, 1998. A pioneer in wildlife rehabilitation, blended eastern and western medicine to create a broad range of treatment options for CROW’s patients. In 2005 the Florida Wildlife Federation named Dr. PJ the Wildlife Conservationist of the
Year, which was the first time they chose a wildlife rehabilitator for the award. Dr. PJ will maintain her residence on Sanibel Island while she works with wildlife affected by the oil spill.

Dr. PJ welcomes anyone wishing to contact her to do so by email at
deitschel@gmail.com or by phone at 233-0708.
