We drove by there yesterday and they appear to be closed and the sign is gone! Any idea what's happening? _________________

| Yup, heard they were forced out (some kind of dispute with the Bailey family, dating back to Hurricane Charley). It's a real shame - Andy and Brenda are such nice folks. |

| I'm sorry to hear that, we were there last Nov. and it seemed busy. I loved their Frogmore Stew. OK somebody has to put the Stew on their menu. |

When I went in December it looked liked it was closed everytime we went by it and I wanted to take the kids their. So when we went for Spring Break, we went into the parking lot and it's obviously closed. We saw a dumpster with some guys throwing stuff in it from the inside the building. Hubby and I guessed that they were remodeling it. I had no idea that they are gone...gone....that's a real bummer. We were looking forward to trying the place out.
Does anyone know if they will reopen somewhere else on the island maybe or did they just throw in the towel all together? _________________ Traci |

Biddles Bucket had become one of our favorites, they had GREAT Crunchy Grouper sandwiches and platters and they were great to visit, very friendly and homey....if you know what I mean!!
They were somewhat different than the rest...offered new and different things...very resonably priced too!
They will be missed! If you hear of them opening up somewhere else post it so we can go there!! _________________ ~~Character is doing the right thing....when nobody's looking!!~~ |

| My fiancee and I were bummed when we read this post about Biddles being closed. Last year we had SO much fun there. It was a great place to have some drinks, enjoy good food (we mostly had bar food but it was very very good). One night we went in and the crowd was not too big with maybe 5 other customers, a singer on stage, and the staff. We had such a great time as a group that somehow the idea came out that we needed something to remember the night. The result: we bought a Biddles shirt and the customers and staff all wrote something fun on it. Still have the shirt and glad I do, now. Still have some of those wooden nickels too...lol. Such a fun, cozy place. Will be missed. |

I heard it was bought by John of Schnapper's Hots fame and will reopen as Coconut something. Apparently will be very similar to what it was as Biddles. We'll see. I'm lost... no where to go on Friday night! |

| It was "Coconut Grove" several years ago! That building has had so many incarnations. BTW, I'm trying to remember what was in Doc Ford's location before it became Doc's? The Timbers was there several years ago, but then what was it? |

We never ate at Biddle's Bucket, but that's probably because we had such bad experiences at the previous renditions of restaurants on that spot. I had some of the worst corned beef on a St. Pat's Day that I could ever imagine there ... and that was when it was the Seafood Factory. That was the last time we went there.
It'd be nice if a decent place would function there. Sounds like there is that possibility.
I looked back at the thread provided by the link and was pleased to see mention of Timmy's Nook. That place was so cool. As I recall, the restrooms had a curtain ... and that was maybe about it ... but the sandwiches were great and they had absolutely the best key lime pie. Captiva was much more rustic then--and that was in the early 90s. I'd love to have seen it in the 60s, 70s, 80s.
The Green Flash is nowhere near what Timmy's was. His really was a hole in the wall, but so cool. I heard back then he sold his hold in the wall for over a million ... but then, you hear a lot on a small island.
Does anyone remember when there was a Mucky Duck on Ft. Myers Beach? We used to stay at the Pink Shell back when it was the kind of place we liked (no water parks, etc.) ... and there was, in fact, a Mucky on FMB. I think Victor was there, too.
I will never forget our very first meal in Lee County. It was at Snug Harbor ... back in about 1990. We thought that was just the coolest place in the world.
Ah ... memories ... _________________ Wisconsin Scout |

| Doc Ford's was the Island House. I am probably one of the few people that liked it better then. |

Wasn't it also a Comedy Club for a while before the Island House? _________________ June |

I was speaking to a member of the Schnapps family last night, and they're shooting to open the new restaurant on July 1. I hope they do well!! |
